Love & The Idea of It

My idea of love is vast and minuscule at the same time. With this in mind, the pursuit of love has been ingrained into the human identity. The word itself is an action, feeling, description, and elusive all in one. I'm still searching for it in all its forms, and I won't stop anytime soon.
I might be looking for love everywhere I go, but I'm not only looking for romantic love. Walking around town, I've seen many types of love that I find intense. I wonder why? Why do we fall for a person with a different outlook on life? Finding a friend that surpasses all exception and idea of true love. So much so, that friend becomes a muse maybe an obsession. (Don't be a Stalker please it's not cool.) We find ways to express ourselves through art because of love. The love of art is a pursuit that shows how much we love one another in my opinion.
I would admit that I might be wrong about the love of art; nevertheless, art is love. I share my photographs of people that I love and admire. In an instance, I find the most solemn look that I believe is most beautiful at the moment. Move over I know my subject personally, and over time I find myself falling in love with them.  Maybe one or two romantically, while others a deep friendship blossoms. I respect their outlook on the world and their choices in life. While taking a portrait of any of them I try to find a way to express that love. Finding an image that shows there true self might be the hardest thing I could have done.
Due to that fact, I find myself continually taking multiple images of the people I care about the most. It could be my insecurities bursting forth subconsciously in these situations. The world that we live in today is a strange place to find a good example of Love. Again my opinion. Take, for example, William Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet the two star-crossed lovers. A great tragedy about love and its consequence.
Looking at this story about two teens that met at a party. They fell in love, got married, and killed themselves all within a week. Should this be the example of love that we all should strive for? I totally say run in the opposite direction when you encounter this. I say to you "Run Forest Run!" Nay, you say, it's just a story you say. How about the story of the girl next door that falls for the QB of the local high school gets married and has 2.5 children. Sound great right the perfect love story but wait it is a something is missing in this story. Where are her pursuits, dreams, and opportunities? Yet again what is the best love story in the world? The one that starts with you should the best story.
That might be a little deep, but the love of oneself should be first. I'm still working on that idea. More insecurities, please bear with me. Don't get me wrong High School sweetheart could happen even today, but it will be the hardest type of love. The world has changed from even ten years ago. Everything today is for the right now extreme. No time for the future or the past. I guess love has been shrunk down to an insignificant Snapchat feed.
Nevertheless, "Love & the Idea of it" seems to be the only the only thing that keeps us together.  What do you love? How hard are you willing to work it?

Quote 1

"The photographer begins to feel big and bloated and so big he can't walk through one of these doors because he gets a good byline; he gets notices all over the world and so forth; but they're really, the important people are the people he photographs."

IDEA 1: PEOPLE ARE IMPORTANT

In Gordon Park stated that "the important people are the people he photographs". I began to think about how people interact with each other in the moment just before the picture was taking. A street photographer takes a snapshot of time that looks interesting, connecting others to the moment very important. Take Mr. Parks American Gothic we see an African American cleaning lady Ella Watson in front of the American flag. This picture was taking in the year 1942, This photograph is Gordon Parks re-imagining of Grant Wood painting. When I looked at this picture, I see a strong single woman that will

work hard for to support her family, just like Mr. Wood painting. This photograph also a something else just below the surface; during 1940  an African American woman was looked down upon as a second-class citizen. The importance of this picture is Ella Watson who is willing to clean the floors of US building during WW2. I believe Gordon Parks treats his subject respect and love with every photograph he takes. He tells their story every time he sees a moment that he thinks is important. This is my opinion on Gordon Parks quote. Gordon Park photographs have a profound effect on many people included me. I want to study more of his work to improve my own work. I also want to connect with the people in any way possible.
