In Gordon Park stated that "the important people are the people he photographs". I began to think about how people interact with each other in the moment just before the picture was taking. A street photographer takes a snapshot of time that looks interesting, connecting others to the moment very important. Take Mr. Parks American Gothic we see an African American cleaning lady Ella Watson in front of the American flag. This picture was taking in the year 1942, This photograph is Gordon Parks re-imagining of Grant Wood painting. When I looked at this picture, I see a strong single woman that will
work hard for to support her family, just like Mr. Wood painting. This photograph also a something else just below the surface; during 1940 an African American woman was looked down upon as a second-class citizen. The importance of this picture is Ella Watson who is willing to clean the floors of US building during WW2. I believe Gordon Parks treats his subject respect and love with every photograph he takes. He tells their story every time he sees a moment that he thinks is important. This is my opinion on Gordon Parks quote. Gordon Park photographs have a profound effect on many people included me. I want to study more of his work to improve my own work. I also want to connect with the people in any way possible.
